San Antonio to Aurora Movers

Aurora is Colorado's third-largest city and by far the biggest of Denver's suburbs — a sprawling place of nearly 400,000 people that spills across three counties (Arapahoe, Adams, and a slice of Douglas) on the high plains east and southeast of Denver. Where Denver runs up against the foothills, Aurora faces the other way, out toward open prairie and big sky, which gives much of the city a newer, more spread-out feel. The historic core, Original Aurora, grew up along East Colfax Avenue and is anchored today by the Aurora Cultural Arts District; a few miles south, the Havana Street corridor — the "On Havana" district — is one of the most international stretches in the state, lined with Korean, Ethiopian, Mexican, and Vietnamese kitchens that reflect a city routinely ranked among Colorado's most diverse. Out southeast, master-planned golf communities like Saddle Rock and Tallyn's Reach ring the Southlands shopping district, while newer neighborhoods such as Painted Prairie and The Aurora Highlands are rising on the prairie near Denver International Airport.

The economy leans on two giant anchors that both sit inside Aurora. Buckley Space Force Base, on the city's east side, is a major military and satellite-operations installation employing thousands in missile warning, GPS, and space-data work. And the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus — built on the grounds of the old Fitzsimons Army hospital — is one of the country's largest concentrated medical and bioscience hubs, home to UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital, Children's Hospital Colorado, the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center, and a surrounding Fitzsimons Innovation Community of biotech firms. Add the Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center near the airport, a busy healthcare and logistics base, and quick access to Denver International Airport just to the north, and Aurora carries real economic weight of its own rather than living purely as a bedroom community.

Day to day, Aurora trades some of Denver's density for space, parks, and value. Cherry Creek State Park and its reservoir sit on the northwest side, the larger Aurora Reservoir draws swimmers and paddlers in the southeast, and the Sand Creek and High Line Canal greenways thread trails through the city; families are also pulled in by the well-regarded Cherry Creek School District that serves much of the southern half. For a household coming from San Antonio, the honest trade-off is cost: Aurora is meaningfully more affordable than Denver proper — a big part of its appeal — but housing and overall cost of living still run higher than in South Texas, and Colorado charges a state income tax that Texas does not. Wages tend to be higher to match, but that's math worth running before the move rather than after.
