Carrollton sits at the northwest edge of the metroplex, a city of roughly 130,000 that spills across three counties — most of it in Denton County, with slices reaching into Dallas and Collin. It is the anchor of the "Metrocrest," the cluster of Carrollton, Farmers Branch, Addison, and Coppell that grew up along the northwest freeways, and it has a very different character than the master-planned boomtowns further north. Carrollton is also one of North Texas's most international suburbs. The stretch of Old Denton Road on the city's north side is the heart of DFW's Koreatown, lined with Korean grocers, an H Mart, restaurants, and bakeries, and the broader city carries a rich Asian and Latino food-and-retail scene that gives it a cosmopolitan feel unusual for a mid-size suburb. Transit is another genuine differentiator: the DART Green Line runs light rail through Carrollton with stops at Downtown Carrollton, Trinity Mills, and North Carrollton/Frankford, and Trinity Mills is the transfer point to the DCTA A-train that runs north to Denton — a level of rail connectivity that San Antonio simply does not offer.

Coming from San Antonio, the trade-offs are real and worth naming. Property-tax rates across Denton and Dallas counties tend to run higher than what you likely paid in Bexar County or the Hill Country, and Carrollton's older, in-demand neighborhoods carry metroplex pricing rather than San Antonio pricing. What you buy in return is location and access — shorter commutes to some of the country's densest corporate campuses, walkable pockets like the revived downtown square, and a settled, diverse community that feels more lived-in than the subdivisions being poured today in Prosper or Celina. For a family relocating for a North Texas job, Carrollton is often the value play: close to everything, without the price tag of Frisco or the far-north Collin County exurbs.
