San Antonio to Moreno Valley Movers

Moreno Valley is one of the largest cities in the Inland Empire, a fast-grown Riverside County community of roughly 210,000 people that only incorporated in 1984 — its name a nod to early settler Frank E. Brown ("moreno" is Spanish for brown). It spreads across a broad valley floor at about 1,600 feet of elevation, tucked beneath the Box Springs Mountains, whose big white hillside "M" looks down over town. The city is a patchwork of distinct districts rather than one downtown: Sunnymead is the historic original core along the old highway, Edgemont sits on the western edge toward Riverside and the Box Springs reserve, Towngate anchors the retail center around the Moreno Valley Mall, the master-planned Moreno Valley Ranch climbs the southeast with its golf course and newer tracts, and Rancho Belago covers the growing eastern side. Lake Perris State Recreation Area sits just to the south for boating, fishing, and swimming beneath the San Jacinto foothills.

The economy is built on logistics. Moreno Valley is a cornerstone of the Inland Empire's warehouse-and-distribution boom — the region that moves much of Southern California's imported goods inland from the ports of LA and Long Beach. Amazon fulfillment centers, Ross, Harbor Freight, Aldi, and Walgreens all run distribution operations here, and the enormous planned World Logistics Center has kept the city at the center of e-commerce fulfillment. The other big employers are military and medical: March Air Reserve Base (with the March Field Air Museum) sits on the southwestern edge, and the Riverside University Health System Medical Center — the county's public hospital and trauma center — plus Kaiser Permanente Moreno Valley and nearby Loma Linda University Health make healthcare a major job base. Many residents also commute out to Riverside, Ontario, and the wider LA/Orange County job market.

For a household leaving San Antonio, the trade-offs are worth planning around honestly. Moreno Valley is one of the more attainable ways into Southern California homeownership — housing costs a fraction of coastal LA or Orange County, and buyers get newer homes and bigger lots than the beach cities allow — but it still runs pricier than Bexar County, and California layers on a state income tax that Texas does not, plus higher fuel and utility costs. In exchange, newcomers get a real foothold in SoCal: mountains, desert, and lakes within reach, freeway access to the whole region, and dry inland sunshine most of the year instead of Gulf humidity.
