Planning a Optometry Office Move

An optometry office has a storefront inside a clinical practice. The exam lanes need attention from the vendor that services them, while the dispensary has display positions that can lose their order in a move. A frame board may look simple on the wall, but its shelves, holders, samples, and stock locations form a map your optician uses every day.

We start with the optician's layout for the new dispensary. Each removable board or display section gets a destination wall, and each packed group of frames gets a position on that section. Our crew can take down movable display pieces, protect them for transport, and place them where the new layout calls for them. Your team decides how to sort saleable frames, patient orders, and lenses, and which items remain in staff custody. Meanwhile, the exam lane vendor directs the handling and setup of chairs, optical instruments, and serviced devices. The dispensary can reopen to walk-ins before the last lane is tested, if that is the order you choose.

Timing that works
Choose a window after the last booked exam and dispensing appointment; leave time for the optician to reset displays and the vendor to test exam lanes before booking the next patients.

What typically moves

  • Removable frame boards and display panels The optician assigns each panel a destination wall; we label and pad movable sections before taking them through the dispensary.
  • Freestanding frame towers and countertop displays Samples come off first, then display units are wrapped and placed according to the new sales-floor drawing.
  • Frame trays and optical stock cartons Your staff sorts stock by board and position; we pack or carry those labeled groups without mixing tray contents.
  • Dispensing tables, mirrors, and adjustment benches Loose mirrors receive face protection, while table sections and benches go to their marked dispensing stations.
  • Reception counter sections and check-out stations Movable sections travel separately from the frame displays so staff can establish the check-in path at the new office.
  • Contact lens stock cabinets and supply shelving Freestanding cabinets and shelves are labeled by destination; the practice identifies products and patient orders that staff will carry.

Access and scheduling

Set the moving window from your appointment book, including the last exam, the last scheduled pickup of finished glasses, and any contact lens pickups. We can plan an evening or weekend window on request, but the practice decides when patients stop using the dispensary and when the new one can reopen.

A retail-facing suite may share its entrance and parking with neighboring tenants. A medical office building may instead require a loading reservation, freight elevator time, and a Certificate of Insurance for management. Tell us which walls will take the new boards, whether display hardware belongs to the lease, and where the vendor will stage lane components. We check door widths and the carry path for tall display towers and large mirrors before assigning them a loading order.

Protection and handling

Frame samples are easy to jumble when a board is cleared. Your optician sets the grouping: by board, row, or another location code that matches the new display. We pack labeled trays in divided cartons. Board components, shelf pins, and removable holders stay with their labeled panel. We pad panel faces and protect mirror surfaces, then load those pieces so they can be placed before cartons of frames are opened.

At the destination, we put the display pieces against the optician's wall map and group the corresponding cartons nearby. Your staff checks stock and handles customer orders. Check-out computers are unplugged, padded, and reconnected at the new counter; software sign-in stays with your staff. Exam lane instruments remain on the vendor's schedule and handling plan.

Who does what

Some of this job belongs to other trades. The written plan names each one.

Exam chairs, phoropters, slit lamps, and diagnostic instruments
Your optical equipment vendor directs disconnection, transport, installation, and testing of the exam lanes. We reserve a clear route and place dispensary furnishings around that schedule.
Display map, saleable frames, and patient orders
Your optician assigns board positions, identifies stock for packing, and checks the reset display. Practice staff retain control of customer orders and prescription items.
Built-in display wall and new mounting points
Your landlord or fixture installer confirms what can be removed and prepares mounting at the new site. We move only the display sections released as movable pieces.

Not part of our work

  • Selecting, counting, pricing, or dispensing frame inventory; your optician directs those decisions and verifies stock after placement.
  • Disconnecting, installing, or testing exam lane instruments; arrange that work with the optical equipment vendor.
  • Transporting customer eyewear, active orders, or prescription items that the practice chooses to keep with its staff.

Around San Antonio and the Hill Country

San Antonio optometry offices may have a storefront along Stone Oak or Loop 1604, or a suite near the South Texas Medical Center with shared building access. The actual entrance, display wall, and vendor path matter more than the address alone when we plan where boards and stock cartons land.

Optometry Office Moving FAQs

Another question? Call (830) 329-7272.

How do we keep frame samples in the same positions after the move?

Have your optician mark each board and its rows on a simple display map before samples come down. We label trays or cartons to those positions and keep each board's holders and hardware together. At the new office, we place the boards and matching cartons by that map. Your optician then checks the display and makes any merchandising changes.

Can your crew move the exam lanes with the dispensary fixtures?

Put the lane work on your optical equipment vendor's schedule. That vendor should decide how chairs and instruments are prepared, moved, installed, and tested. Share its route and access times with us so we can place boards, counters, and stock without blocking the lane work. Our inventory covers the movable dispensary and office pieces the practice assigns to us.

What happens to glasses awaiting pickup and contact lens orders?

Your practice should identify those orders before packing starts and decide whether staff will carry them. Keep customer names, prescription details, and pickup decisions with your team. We can move the empty pickup cabinet or labeled stock shelving to its new location, then your staff can restock and check orders once the counter is ready.

What if the new optical display uses fewer boards than our current store?

Have the optician choose which sections will be reused and mark the intended wall positions before teardown. We can load the selected movable boards and their labeled parts as one group, while your team decides what happens to frames assigned to sections that will not be reused. The fixture installer or landlord should confirm which existing panels can actually be removed.
