Planning a Auto Dealership Move

A dealership move spans three work areas. The showroom needs its freestanding displays and customer seating placed to the new floor plan. Sales and finance offices need desks, files, and desk-level equipment assigned to the right room. The parts department needs every carton tied to its aisle and bin so the new counter can find stock.

Vehicles sit outside our moving scope. Your dealership staff or chosen auto transporter drives or hauls display cars, customer vehicles, and inventory vehicles. We plan our loading route with you so vehicle movements and pedestrian carries use separate paths. Before packing, your team decides which displays belong to the building, which office records stay in staff custody, and how the parts inventory will be counted. We then move the approved fixtures and contents to their marked destinations. For the broader building move, see our retail and hospitality moving work.

Timing that works
Plan around showroom hours, parts-counter demand, and the handoff of vehicles by your staff or auto transporter; ask about evening or weekend windows.

What typically moves

  • Freestanding showroom display stands Removable panels and bases are labeled as sets; your sales manager identifies their positions on the new showroom plan.
  • Sales desks and customer consultation tables Desk components and loose hardware stay together, with each destination office or showroom zone on the label.
  • Finance office desks and file cabinets Your staff secures sensitive paperwork; we move the emptied or closed cabinets and assigned desk equipment.
  • Parts-counter shelving and pickup fixtures Freestanding pieces are marked by counter position, with their loose brackets packed beside the parent fixture.
  • Boxed parts stock and bin organizers Your parts team supplies aisle and bin references; cartons carry those references through loading and placement.
  • Customer lounge seating and brochure racks We pad seating and separate loose rack shelves so the waiting area can be placed from your floor plan.

Access and scheduling

Ask your sales and parts managers which functions must remain available while the old site is cleared. A showroom may keep customer appointments while the parts counter serves service staff, so we sequence office contents, display fixtures, and parts cartons by area. Your team releases each area for packing. Evening or weekend work is available on request.

Dealership lots create a traffic problem: vehicle lanes, customer parking, and the truck's loading position may overlap. We walk that route and agree on a vehicle movement window and a separate carry path. At the new location, we ask where parts cartons can be staged. If a landlord or building manager requires a Certificate of Insurance, send its wording before the move. Your facilities contact confirms dock and gate rules.

Protection and handling

Showroom glass, polished display surfaces, and customer seating need protection. We remove loose shelves from freestanding racks, pad exposed corners, and bag small display hardware. Sales desks are labeled to their destination rooms. For desk computers and monitors, we can unplug, pad, move, and reconnect the physical units; your IT contact restores network access and tests systems.

The parts manager defines the inventory map. Their team counts stock and marks the aisle, section, and bin for each carton before it joins the load. We preserve those labels and keep cartons grouped by destination. Staff can then check the count and restock the bins. Keys, titles, and customer paperwork stay under dealership control. No vehicle enters our load: the dealer or its auto transporter handles the driving or hauling, and we keep the carrying route clear of that operation.

Who does what

Some of this job belongs to other trades. The written plan names each one.

Display, inventory, and customer vehicles
Your dealership staff or chosen auto transporter drives or hauls them and controls their keys. Our crew does not load, drive, or transport vehicles.
Parts inventory count and bin assignments
Your parts manager owns the count and destination map. We carry labeled cartons and place them by the references their team supplies.
Anchored service-bay equipment and building connections
Your equipment vendor and appropriate licensed trade assess, disconnect, move, reinstall, and test these installations. Our plan covers the movable showroom, office, and parts contents.

Not part of our work

  • Driving, loading, or hauling display cars, customer vehicles, or dealership inventory vehicles; your team or auto transporter handles them.
  • Counting parts stock, assigning bin locations, or taking custody of vehicle keys, titles, and customer records.
  • Removing or installing anchored service-bay equipment or its building connections; arrange that work with the equipment vendor and licensed trade.

Around San Antonio and the Hill Country

A San Antonio dealership near Loop 410, Loop 1604, or I-10 may have separate showroom, service, and parts entrances facing the same lot. That layout affects where a moving truck can stand without crossing a vehicle lane. For a move toward Boerne, Kerrville, or another Hill Country town, we use the actual lot and doorway plan at each address to set the loading route.

Auto Dealership Moving FAQs

Another question? Call (830) 329-7272.

Will your crew move the cars from our showroom and inventory lot?

No. Your dealership staff or an auto transporter you hire handles every display, inventory, and customer vehicle, including its keys and route. We move the freestanding showroom fixtures, offices, and packed parts contents assigned to our load. Give us the vehicle movement plan so we can keep the truck and carrying path away from cars entering or leaving the lot.

How should our parts manager label stock for the new bins?

Have the parts team establish the destination aisle, section, and bin before cartons are closed. They should count and label the stock; we keep those carton labels visible and grouped through loading. At the new department, we place the freestanding shelving first and deliver cartons to the marked areas. Your parts staff checks quantities and puts individual items into their bins.

Can the sales offices move while our parts counter stays open?

We can plan the office portion as a separate stage if the two areas have distinct access and your managers can release them at different times. The sales manager marks office destinations, and the parts manager identifies stock that must remain accessible. We then set a loading order around those decisions and the lot's vehicle traffic, subject to the hours allowed at both buildings.

What happens to the service-bay lifts and fixed shop equipment?

Ask the equipment vendor to assess what can move, how it is detached, and what the new bay requires. An appropriate licensed trade handles building connections. Those installations sit outside our showroom, office, and parts load. We can coordinate our access and timing around the vendor's work, but the vendor is responsible for removing, transporting, installing, and testing its equipment.
