How we plan warehouse & industrial moves
Light-industrial moves are measured in pallets, bins, and dock doors rather than rooms. A fulfillment operation has pick shelving and packing stations. A print or sign shop has substrate stock and wide-format printers. A contractor has a tool crib and a material yard. A records room has thousands of boxes that must stay in sequence. Each of these is a different job, and none of them looks like an office move.
We plan dock to dock. That means knowing how many doors each building has, whether they are truck-height or ground-level, where a trailer can stage, and what hours the receiving side is open. Loads are built by zone, so the first pallets off the truck are the ones the new layout needs first. Shelving and bins are labeled by aisle and position before teardown, and boxed stock travels in bin order so picking can restart from a known map.
Heavy production equipment is a separate trade. Presses, CNC machines, anything anchored to the slab, and anything that needs a power drop is moved by the machine dealer or an equipment-moving contractor, and storage structures bolted to the floor are taken down and reinstalled by their installer. We move the office, the break room, the shelving that comes apart by hand, the workbenches, the tool cabinets, and the boxed and palletized goods, and we schedule around the contractors so each crew has the floor when it needs it.
San Antonio's industrial space sits along a few corridors: the northeast side along I-35 toward Schertz, Selma, and New Braunfels, the I-10 corridor on both sides of town, the southside around Brooks, and the flex buildings on the Northwest Side. Who moves our heavy machines and bolted-down equipment?
The machine dealer or an equipment-moving contractor, along with the electrician who handles power drops. Storage structures anchored to the floor are taken down and reinstalled by their installer. We move everything that comes apart by hand, including shelving, benches, tool cabinets, and boxed or palletized goods, and schedule around those contractors.
How do you keep bins and shelving in pick order?
Before teardown, shelving units and bins are labeled by aisle and position, and boxed stock is loaded in bin order. At the new building the crew rebuilds to the same aisle map, so your team can restart picking from a known layout instead of searching pallets.
Our building shares a dock with other tenants. Does that change the plan?
It changes the schedule. Shared docks usually have booking rules, yard limits, and hours set by the property manager. Tell us who controls the dock calendar and we plan trailer arrivals, staging, and crew size around the time slots you are given.
